Dance

Most of this hasn't been updated in years. I've moved away and don't keep the page current. The best way to keep current on old-time music in the Atlanta area is to join the atloldtime group at Yahoo! Groups. To learn more about the atloldtime group, please visit http://groups.yahoo.com/group/atloldtime.

More information about these and other dance events can be found on the Atlanta Contra Dance Page. Since that site is so good, I am not attempting to keep a complete list of dance events.

This is a fun evening of traditional American dances, done in big circles, squares, and sets, with live Appalachian string band music played by old-time musicians from North Georgia. No experience is necessary, all dances will be taught, and it is not necessary to come with a partner. Children accompanied by an adult are welcome to join in the dances. Wear soft-soled shoes and comfortable clothes and come ready to dance! Louis Wild, a life-long Southern-style dancer and caller, will call the dances. Louis has been calling dances for 25 years and has studied and collected old-time calls and moves from traditional mountain square dances in the region. Live dance music provided by the Pot Luck String band (Walter and Jeannie Daves and friends) wonderful local musicians playing authentic mountain music. Cost for the dance is $5/adult, payable at the door, with a maximum of $15 per family.
